» Cross-Border Cooperation

International

Standing as it does at the heart of an expanded Europe, the Haut-Rhin Department has had very close links for many years with its Swiss and German neighbours. It is represented on the committees of a variety of institutions involved in cross-border cooperation and also participates, alongside the Alsace Region, the managing authority, in the implementation of the European Interreg Initiative. This operation has made possible the financing of many bi-national or tri-national projects and will continue to do so over the period 2007-2013.

In addition, the Department’s Conseil Général, supports the development of the Trinational Eurodistrict of Basle and the Freiburg/ South-Central Alsace Eurodistrict. It also contributes to the maintenance of a variety of networks providing information and advice to its citizens (Infobest Palmrain, Infobest Vogelgrun/Breisach and Eures-T).
Since the autumn of 2009 Infobest has had a new website www.infobest.eu . The site is a bilingual database devoted to cross-border matters in connection with the Upper Rhine in the fields of education, training, marriage, employment, etc.

The Department also provides financial support and technical assistance with the implementation of cross-border initiatives of all kinds, both public and private. It is also responsible for three Interreg projects: the "2 Banks, 3 Bridges, a Thousand Discoveries" cross-border cycle tourism network, the Upper Rhine Geographical Information System and the Maison TriRhena Palmrain.
