At the instigation of the Polish Ambassador to France, the Haut-Rhin Department and the Powiat of Wroc?aw established links which, on 27 June 2001, resulted in the signature of a cooperation agreement.

The Powiat of Wroc?aw is located in the voivodeship of Lower Silesia which is twinned with the Alsace Region.

The aim is to support the integration of Poland into the European Union.

The agreement provides for cooperation in the following areas (each within the framework of its respective competence):
  • Social action,
  • Environmental Protection and Rural Planning,
  • Economic and Tourist Development,
  • Culture and Heritage,
  • Education, Training, Sport, and School Exchanges,
  • Institutional Cooperation
Preparation of the action programme and monitoring and evaluation of cooperation are the task of a Mixed Committee whose members are appointed by the respective assemblies. Each of the two partners is represented by three members on this committee.
