International

Cross-border and international cooperation are two of the major focuses of departmental policy. The Conseil Général wishes to open up the Department’s territory to the world in order to create a partnership that has strengths at every level (social, economic, educational, etc.).

» Cross-Border Cooperation

The Department fosters close relations with Switzerland and Germany. It is involved in the European Interreg initiative and finances many projects, assists with the development of Eurodistricts and supports information networks (Infobest, etc.)

» Upper Rhine Geographical Information System (URGIS)

The Conseil Général is implementing a cross-border geographical information system at the request of the Upper Rhine conference. It intends to make use of this to compensate for the lack of cooperative studies of frontier areas.

Basing its approach on the idea of solidarity, the Department is working in Burkina Faso and Mali and is supporting projects being carried out by Haut-Rhin associations.
